Losing Your Life Means WHAT?  # 2
Application  of Jesus' Words
Jesus had some very important words for his followers regarding the above question.  John 12:25 (NKJV) He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. It would be hard for an individual to say, “What is Jesus saying to us!” His words are clear and understandable. You need not be a rocket scientist to be conscious of this declaration by Jesus our Lord.Mark 8:34-36 (NKJV) 34..."Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. 35 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel's will save it. 36 For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his us own soul?"

Luke 17:33 (NKJV) Whoever seeks to save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it.

The more you love life the more tedious it becomes. The more you care for it and keep it, the more you lose it. Loving your life means to be controlled by it. Loving this world does not produce any lasting satisfaction.

Giving Way to One’s Flesh: To give way to the flesh is to open self to it’s control and to come-under the law of sin in Romans 7:21-25 (NKJV) 21 I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good. 22 For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man. 23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. 24 O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?
25 I thank God--through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin.

The World’s continued attempt to CONTROL:  The world will try to control us and conform us to its pattern. Luke 17:32-33 (MSG) 32 Remember what happened to Lot's wife! 33 If you grasp and cling to life on your terms, you'll lose it, but if you let that life go, you'll get life on God's terms.
2 Timothy 4:10 (MSG) Demas, chasing fads, went off to Thessalonica and left me here.

Romans 12:2 (NLT) Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world,

Ezekiel 16:49-50 (NKJV) 49 Look, this was the iniquity of your sister Sodom: She and her daughter had pride, fullness of food, and abundance of idleness; neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. 50 And they were haughty and committed abomination before Me; therefore I took them away as I saw fit.
Notables with a Pentecostal - Holiness Background:

Marilyn Monroe was born Norma Jeane Mortenson on June 1, 1926, at Los Angeles General Hospital. Norma Jean’s mother boarded her to a devoutly religious couple, for $12 a week. Wayne and Ida Bolender lived a comfortable existence in Hawthorne, a suburb of Los Angeles. Marilyn would later remember the couple's devotion to their religion as one that approached zealousness. She claimed that as the young Norma Jeane, she had to promise never to drink or swear, she had to attend church several times a week.Though Norma Jeane regularly attended church with the Bolenders, she was taken by her grandmother, Della Monroe, to the Foursquare Gospel Church (Pentecostal) to be baptized by the flamboyant evangelist Aimee Semple McPherson. Della, a devout follower of Sister Aimee, had her granddaughter christened "Norma Jeane Baker." In early August 1962 Marilyn was found dead in her bedroom.

Elvis Aaron Presley was born to Vernon and Gladys Presley in a two-room house in Tupelo, Mississippi, on January 8, 1935. His twin brother, Jessie Garon, was stillborn, leaving Elvis to grow up as an only child. He and his parents moved to Memphis, Tennessee, in 1948, and Elvis graduated from Humes High School there in 1953. He attended the First Assembly of God in Memphis TN. Elvis’ musical influences in gospel music was heard in church and at the all-night gospel sings he frequently attended.

The McGuire Sisters were born in Middletown, Ohio and grew up in Miamisburg where their mother, Lillie, was an ordained minister of the Miamisburg First Church of God (Anderson, Indiana) and let them sing in the church as young girls. They sang at weddings, funerals and church revivals. When they started in 1935, the youngest sister, Phyllis, was only four years old. Eventually, they sang at occasions other than church-related ones and, by 1949, they were singing at military bases and veterans' hospitals. They incorporated a more diverse repertoire for those events, expanding into more than the usual hymns they had sung at church.

2 Peter 3:9 (NKJV) The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

John 1:12 (ASV) But as many as received him, to them gave he the right to become children of God, even to them that believe on his name:
If we are to hear Jesus -- John 12:25 (NKJV) He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.
